Congrats to the Schoettle's!

On Saturday morning, one of my dearest girlfriends in Indy married her fiance, Mark and became Mrs Cassy Schoettle! I'm so happy for her and so excited for her to embark on this new life with Mark. I was a little nervous going to this wedding because it was at Our Lady of Greenwood...a Catholic church. I try to avoid these Catholic weddings. They are too long! Fortunately, their's lasted about 30 minutes and we were out the door. We went to Buca de Beppo for lunch and then off to Knock Outs for the reception. I had a blast at the reception. I got into a little bit of a fight with one of Mark's sisters about Catholism and why I don't practice anymore. I had to end that conversation pretty quickly.

On a good note, here is a picture of Lisa, me, and Cassy at the reception. The bar was really dark and my phone doesn't take that great of pictures. Hopefully the bride will share her pictures.

On Sunday, I got up early because I signed up to volunteer for Dig Indiana. It was kind of a last minute thing. Some of my friends make fun of me because I'm obsessed with Twitter. However, I saw someone tweet that they still needed volunteers for this event and so I signed up. I think that's pretty cool. Dig Indiana is a brand new event in Indy at White River Park. All the chefs from the top restaurants come and cook samples of some of their foods for people to try. Also, all the local breweries come too so you can sample their beers. The event is $20 to get to try a lot of different kinds of food and drink that you may not normally get to have. I worked the front desk area carding people and giving out wristbands. I had a blast doing it. The only bad thing was, by the time I got off to sample foods, most of the places I wanted to try had run out of food. :-(

We also gained another dog for the week. We are babysitting Cassy and Mark's beagle mix puppy, Layla while they are on their honeymoon. Usually for about 24 hours, these two go crazy on each other and then, from what I hear, they calm down. I really hope so. Last night,we couldn't get to the two of them to calm down for bed so we decided to keep Layla in her kennel for the night. Well, she cried the whole night which kept Hank up which kept me up which kept Chris up. Then I got up early this morning and tried feeding them seperately but whoever was in their kennel whined the whole time the other one was eating. Haha, I hope my neighbors don't hate me right now!

Indy Fringe

Yesterday, I went downtown to meet up with a couple of my girlfriends to go to Indy Fringe. I have actually been dying to check this out since last year when Renee mentioned it. I never know how to describe it so here's what the website says:

The Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival is a riotous celebration of theatre “old and new,” edgy and not-so, that happens over ten days, August 20-29, 2010, in the Mass Ave Cultural District downtown.

Misty gave me a choice between three theatre acts. One started pretty late in the day so I crossed that one off. The second one was about Jesus as a young boy growing up. Um, no. The third one was called The Four Food Groups. Again, here is the description:

Based on true stories told through original movement, music and spoken word, "The Four Food Groups" investigates interactions between a group of four people over a sexually-charged dinner. Awarded "Most Fringey Show" in 2009 Cincy Fringe Festival.

So I thought, okay this could be good. It was.....very....interesting, to say the least. There were four characters who basically play themselves. They act out different parts of relationships at the dinner table. A lot of food was used to demonstrate these feelings. I think at the point that they were eating chicken and spitting it on the floor, I was done. We decided next year that we would be more careful about what we choose! Haha, and as Renee said last night, this will be an experience that we will laugh about when we're old and talking about our Fringe experiences.

The best party was going to The Flying Cupcake afterwards. YUM! This was also on my list of places and things I wanted to do. I've heard so much about their cupcakes. I follow them on Twitter and every morning they post what flavors they have baked that morning. So I surprised Chris by bring home three cupcakes. Peanut Butter Ganache, Mint Chocolate, and Candyland. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Bookclub Chapters 11-20

1. Where do you think Tim and Marty are at this point in the story?
I'm not going to answer this question since I have already read the book and its hard for me to picture where I thought they were 2 months ago when I read this. Haha!
2. What were your thoughts as CeeCee was helping Genevieve deliver her baby?
I felt Ceecee's emotions during this. She was scared, yet trying to be brave for everyone. She was trying to be brave for Tim and Marty in case Genevieve was putting on an act. And she was trying to be brave so that Genevieve didn't see her fears. Then there was a turning point where CeeCee was trying to be brave by helping to deliver the baby.
3. After Genevieve died, what would you have done with her baby if you had been in CeeCee's shoes?
I would like to think I would have turned myself in at that point. Or I would have found another way to leave the baby. I think that CeeCee barely tried once to drop the baby off somewhere and then took off. I really feel that even in her young age, she could have made more of an effort to get that baby into the right hands. It's not like we're talking about a pair jeans here. We're talking about affecting multiple people's lives.
4. Why do you think CeeCee/Eve is still holding onto hope that Tim will come for her?
How could she not? He promised her. She is so young and never been in a serious relationship before. I think back to when I first started dating and some of the things guys told me. And I believed them. Of course, nothing as extreme as this, but still. Maybe to others, I seemed young and naive in my actions or hopes. CeeCee doesn't have anything to compare this too. "Oh, well men usually lie, so Tim's not going to come back."
5. How do you think Eve will establish her new identity in Virginia?
Again, I feel that I can't really answer this since I have already read the book. I do remember being curious as to how she would accomplish this. Obviously, SCAPE will have a hand in it.
6. What do you think of CeeCee/Eve now after she has gone through with the kidnapping, the delivery of the baby, the escape, and the relocation?
I feel sorry for her. She has a tough road ahead. She did the best that she thought she could and now she is stuck. Whether she likes it or not. She must keep moving forward. I don't think when she made the decision to help Tim and Marty, that this scenario even crossed her mind.

Book Club

So I think I mentioned before that I joined an online book club and I'm supposed to post my answers to my blog so that others can read it. So, we are reading The Secret Lies of Cee Cee Wilkes. I've actually already read this book earlier this summer, but I'm following along b/c I think it will be interesting to see how others respond to this woman's story.

1. What was your first impression of Tim?
I thought he was very handsome and a very appealing guy. He seemed to be mysterious and unattainable in the beginning. I was happy for CeeCee when she snagged him.
2. If you were in CeeCee’s position, would you be willing to help your boyfriend in the way that she is willing to help Tim?
Um, no definitely not. I don't even cook breakfast for my boyfriend now so I doubt that I would help him break his sister out of jail. I also believe in the system that we have set in place. If his sister was in jail, it was probably for a reason. I do sympathize with Tim's emotions though.
3. Why do you think CeeCee is so eager to please Tim?
I think that the reason I do not go around breaking the law is because I grew up with two parents who taught me the difference between right and wrong. They pounded it into my head. Everytime I made a slight turn down the wrong road, they righted me. CeeCee didn't have that. I think she knew it was wrong, but didn't know how to look at the consequences. I think also that her need for someone to care about her and be in her life was so strong that she was willing to go to great lengths for that person.
4. Who do you think has it harder? Tim or CeeCee?
At this point in the book, I think Tim does. I can't imagine what its like to have a sister that is on death row. I've recently started watching all the seasons of Prison Break which is a show where a guy has a brother on death row. And the brother is innocent as well. It really shows you the emotions of these guys while they are in jail and what is like on your last day of life for you and for your family. I was almost in tears over this and it was only a TV show!
5. What character trait(s) about CeeCee stuck out the most to you in these first ten chapters?
I feel that she is a quiet person, calm, sensitive, almost soothing. Like you feel calm when you are around her. And very innocent. She is very naive and you can tell that by her relationship with her roommate and her views on sex and men.
6. Do you think CeeCee is as mature as she seems?
Quite the contrary. I moved out on my own at an early age as well. Although I was living on my own, working, and paying my bills, that didn't mean I was mature. In fact, it took many years for me to grow up and become the person I am today. I barely recognize the girl that I was 10 years ago. I think CeeCee is very immature, but not due to lack of trying. I believe it is her age and her situation that have forced her to be immature.

More Rant

So, I've been trying to bring my lunch to work. Its healthier and more cost efficient. Plus, when I leave for lunch, all the people that came in late to work move their cars to the front row of the parking lot. It really ticks me off. If you came to work late, you should be banished to the back of the lot. It also ticks me off when they leave right at 5pm. Let me tell you that 5/6ths of my company is usually here after 8am. This morning, at 7:58, it was me and one other person. That's a bit ridiculous.

Anyway, that's not even supposed to be my rant! My rant is that I take my lunch and a book and I go into the break room. I love it. I've been flying through books and I feel so calm when I go back to work for the second part of the day. And I usually take my lunch from noon to one. Well, the "Cold Lady" (the lady that gave me her cold) eats from 12:30 to 1:30 usually. And when she walks into the break room, she always asks me "What are you reading?" To which I reply, the same book. Then she will continue on a conversation with me. Usually about the topic of the book or how come its taking me so long to read this book.

Can you imagine how annoying this is? She can obviously see that I'm reading the same book for the past month. It's bright yellow. The topic of the book hasn't changed. I still like it, thanks for asking. And MAYBE if you didn't talk to me during my lunch, I could finish the damn book. I'm telling that this has ruined my lunches for me. I'm constantly debating with myself on whether I should eat at 11:30 so I can avoid her or if I should wait until 1pm and then maybe I can at least sit away from her. How can I possibly have so much anxiety about one person? Have I mentioned that one time when I went to lunch with her and another coworker that she spent the entire time on the phone with her daughter? Yup, still sitting at the table while we ate.

Well I guess I just want to read and be healthy while I'm reading. So Cold Lady, please stay away from me!

Sick Rant

Okay I'm sorry because I know most of you that read my blog also speak with me almost daily and so you already know my feelings on this. But as I'm sitting here, feeling like crap, sniffing, blowing my noise at an embarrassinly loud noise level, and experience a very dry throat, I can't help but glare over the cube walls at the person that is responsible for me feeling like that. Last Friday, someone came over to help fix my computer and had their hands all over my keyboard and desk. They were sniffling and had mentioned having a sinus infection. I don't know why, but I always associate sinus infections with allergies and therefore not contagious. WRONG!!

I have been sick since Sunday. I couldn't go to work on Monday or Tuesday causing me to use up what little sick leave I have left for the rest of the year not to mention just feeling plain miserable. So to all you people that think you shouldn't call in sick or don't want to waste your sick leave, PLEASE DO IT ANYWAY! It's not fair to make everyone else suffer just because you are a douche bag.

Book Club!

Yay! I'm so excited. On my list of 101 things to do, I have included joining a bookclub. Sounds pretty easy. Not in Indy. I found 2 bookclubs and sent requests to both and didn't hear anything back. I can only assume that either I have been rejected or they no longer exist despite having a website. I really don't feel like starting one either as I'm not sure when I would have the time to organize that especially with football season coming up.

Then my lovely friend Kim informed me about an online bookclub that she has recently joined. Yay! This is perfect. I can read when I want, don't have to attend meetings, yet can still participate in discussions. The first book they are reading is The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes which I actually just read a couple months ago, but loved! So I'm looking forward to reading it again and seeing what other people think. Let me know if anyone is interested in doing this as well! I would post the link on here, but I forgot how Dana told me to do that! Whoops!

Oh and in other news, I also tried a ketchup flavored potato chip and it was disgusting.
